Newspaper fold-out animation recipe

Reveal a photo layer from a curled paper edge with a printed-paper finish. Newspaper Fold combines a warm edge, newsprint texture, an offset shadow, and the fold-out motion. It suits an editorial insert or a visual introduction to a chapter.

Original paper-star study rendered with this recipe's edge, texture, shadow, speed, and intensity. Download the example or open it in the editor to replace the star with your own image.

Make this look

A compact object or portrait with a readable central shape. The starting 4:5 canvas leaves room above and below the subject for a caption added in your final edit.

  1. Open the original star sample, then replace it with the image you want to reveal. Keep the subject centered and leave room for the paper edge and shadow.
  2. Start with border 12, roughness 7, and Newsprint strength 58. Newsprint can compete with small lettering in a source image; lower its strength if labels become hard to read.
  3. The fold motion uses intensity 68 and speed 0.8×. The curved edge unrolls once and holds the complete image. Lower intensity for a smaller curl, adjust speed to change reveal timing, and use Replay fold-out to start again.

Finish the edit

Export a short test and trim it to the useful reveal in your timeline. Add the headline as a separate layer if you need exact type placement. The preset itself contains one image layer; it does not add a newspaper article or a title.

The image opens from left to right behind a shaded paper curl. Revealed pixels keep their original proportions, and the final frame shows the complete image. Allow at least 1.4 seconds divided by the motion speed for the reveal to finish.
