Torn-paper animation for Reels and Shorts
Make a vertical cutaway that feels placed by hand rather than smoothly tweened. The Torn Reel recipe combines a rough paper edge, fine grain, and discrete stop-motion changes. It works as a quick reaction, a chapter break, or a subject cutout above a talking-head video.

Preparing preview…
Video downloads as MP4 where supported, otherwise WebM. GIF is a smaller, silent preview. All examples use our original artwork.
Make this look
A single clear portrait, pet, or object with enough empty space around its silhouette. The 9:16 canvas matches a vertical edit; position important details away from platform controls and captions.
- Open the sample to see the rhythm immediately. Replace the star with your photo and click the subject you want to keep. Inspect hair, hands, and any narrow gaps before continuing.
- The starting recipe uses border 18, roughness 13, Fine grain 42, and a downward shadow. The edge is deliberately prominent. Reduce roughness for fine product details or a small face.
- Stop motion starts at intensity 42 and speed 1.2×. Preview a complete cycle. If the subject touches an edge, reduce its size or movement before exporting a short 720p draft.
Finish the edit
For a finished standalone Reel, keep the paper background and assemble music, captions, and any other shots in your video editor. For an overlay, select green screen or a supported transparent export. Changing the background does not change the motion recipe.
This preset moves the whole cutout in stepped positions. It does not redraw the paper outline or create a complete multi-scene video. Keep a generous margin around the silhouette so that sudden position changes never clip the border.
